Leg Details

2km Swim

Enjoy a 2-kilometre swim out and back in the majestic Nitmiluk (Second) George. Wetsuits permitted.

4.2km Canoe

After the swim leg, participants will pair up in a double canoe. Pairs will be made up according to the finishing order of the swim – i.e. 1st and 2nd paddle together, 3rd and 4th, etc. – those in a team will begin the paddle once their swimmer has finished. Pairs will paddle out and back together, discovering a little more of the spectacular Nitmiluk (Second) George.
**note – all canoes are supplied by Nitmiluk, no participants are permitted to bring their own canoes

8km Trail Run

After exiting the canoe you or your team trail runner will head by ferry 400m downstream to the bottom of Southern Rockhole. You will then run up the Southern Rockhole Trail to the top of the cliff face at Pat’s Lookout and travel along the clearly marked path (Waleka) to the awe-inspiring Jeddah’s Rock. Then head towards Butterfly Junction. From the Junction, scoot along (Yambi) before flying down (Gurumal Trail) back to transition at the Nitmiluk Ranger Station.

40km Road Bike

From the Nitmiluk Ranger Station, push yourself towards the edge of the Katherine township before turning at Jaensch Road to roll back to the transition area at the Nitmiluk Ranger Station.

18km Mountain Bike

Jump from one bike to another (or use the same), and you will be awe-struck as you ride through the challenging trails that wind their way across the Southern Escarpment before arriving back at the transition area at the Nitmiluk Ranger Station.

10km 4WD Road Run

To top off the epic day, tick your legs over for 10 clicks on an out-and-back 4WD course to reach the finish line to copious cheers and an extremely well earned beverage (cup of water). Please note that this course includes both rocky and sandy sections.

If you are a competitor seeking a team to join or a team requiring extra members, post it on our FaceBook Page

Volunteers and Committee

Like every other year, this event is impossible without the generous commitment of a decent few heads and hands. Please get in contact with us if you or anyone you know would like to volunteer for the 2025 Katherine Ultra Challenge. It’s a great way to get involved with a little less of the sweating!

There are opportunities to join the organising committee to help in the lead up to the race as well as on the day volunteers to act as race marshals and timekeepers.

If anyone would like to join the organising committee or volunteer on the day please email the Club email at kmsclub@gmail.com

THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS!

The Katherine Ultra Challenge appreciates the support of the Katherine community. In particular the generous assistance offered by Nitmiluk Tours, who are responsible for transport logistics on the Katherine  Gorge. We could not hold this event without their help. Thank you.
